Spotify Countdown Pages: who qualifies, how to build one, and the video rules

•5 min read•Rules sourced

A Countdown Page is Spotify's own pre-release page for an album or EP. Fans can pre-save it inside the app, and on release day the music lands in their library with a notification. It is free, but not every artist or release qualifies.

Who and what qualifies

  • The artist. At least 3,000 monthly active listeners, shown under Audience > Segments in Spotify for Artists. This is not the same number as monthly listeners.
  • The release. New, original albums and EPs only. Singles do not qualify, and neither do deluxe, anniversary, remaster, reissue or compilation editions.
  • The delivery. The distributor delivers the finished release with its metadata in the standard way; the option to build the page appears within 72 hours of that.
  • Several main artists. Only the first-named main artist can build the page, and it shows only on that artist's profile.

Countdown video rules

  • Length and shape. Longer than 3 seconds and shorter than 30, vertical, at least 1280 × 720, with audio.
  • Rights. You must hold the rights to everything in the video, including the music.
  • No outside promotion. No watermarks from other platforms, no links or directions to other websites or ticket sellers, and no requests to follow you elsewhere.
  • Explicit content. Mark the video explicit if it has profanity, violence, drug references or other sensitive material; Spotify suggests marking it when unsure.
  • Quality. Spotify may remove videos that are blurry or fail its technical requirements. Videos play in the mobile app in over 70 markets.
