Royalties paid from the United States to someone outside it are normally subject to 30% US withholding tax. A tax treaty between the US and your country can lower that rate if you claim it. Pick your country to see the rate the IRS table lists for copyright royalties.
What this does not tell you
- Whether US withholding applies to a given payment depends on where the income comes from and on the payer.
- Treaties have conditions, and some changed after the table was published; the IRS table is dated May 2023.
- Tax at home is separate. This is information, not tax advice; ask a tax adviser in your country.
